This week, we had our quiz, which we had to go through the Google Form provided by our lecturer. We were also given a recorded lecture to complete our course outline about measurement, indices, and indicators for sustainable development and SDG.
An index is an instrument or technique utilized to measure any success. The Malaysian Shariah Index is a systematic metric for assessing the government's performance in implementing national governance according to the principles of Maqasid Shariah. The Sustainable Development Indicator (SDI) is a quantitative instrument that evaluates changes while measuring and conveying advancements in the sustainable utilization and management of economic, social, institutional, and environmental resources. There are four categories based on their characteristics.
The initial category is environmental indicators, which assess the condition of the environment and natural resources. Examples : encompass air quality indexes, greenhouse gas emissions, and water quality.
The second category is economic indicators, which evaluate the sustainability of economic operations and resource utilisation. These encompass metrics such as GDP per capita, employment rates in sustainable industries, resource efficiency, and investments in renewable energy.
The third category is social indicators, which emphasise social well-being, equity, and inclusion. Typical examples include educational and literacy rates, poverty and economic disparity levels, healthcare accessibility, and gender equality in decision-making processes.
The fourth category is institutional indicators, which assess the impact of governance and policy frameworks on the advancement of sustainability. Examples encompass the quantity of sustainable development policies enacted, public engagement in decision-making processes, adherence to international environmental accords, and the efficacy of governance frameworks.
