Week 9 : Field Works : On Campus Observation

 Today, our lecturer assigned us to choose any location on the IIUM Gombak campus for our on-campus observation. We had to take creative and meaningful photos with visuals related to our observations on campus and how we, as students, are promoting sustainability. After our observation, we wrote three insightful lessons based on our chosen site/location. Focusing on how we can contribute to sustainability on campus and why these lessons are significant. Week 8 : Roles of Institutions for Sustainable Development

After one week of mid-sem break, we returned to our physical class. The topic we focused on was the roles of institutions in sustainable development. Before that, we gave our lecturer an update on our ongoing project. The roles that we discussed in the class were the roles of global and national institutions in achieving SDGs, the roles of local institutions and the roles of individuals.  1. Week 7 : Challenges to Sustainable Development

Today, our class was held online through Zoom. Our focus for today's class was challenges to sustainable development through social aspect, economic aspect and environmental aspects. We first started the class by updating on our current group project then our lecturer started the class by talking about the challenges to sustainability. The general challenges to sustainability are inequalities of access to educational resources, health facilities, and access to food and clean water. These challenges represent the fundamental needs that are not equally accessible to all individuals. Week 6 : Roles of Universities and Sustainable Development

We've reached week 6! Our lecturer assigned us to choose any location in the IIUM Gombak Campus that reflects aspects of sustainable development. We had to take creative and meaningful photos highlighting our group in that location, with visuals that relate to the university's role in promoting sustainability. Then, we wrote three insightful lessons connecting the topic of sustainable development to our chosen site. We focused on how the university setting aligns with sustainable practices and goals. The University of IIUM has done a lot of awareness of the university's roles in promoting sustainability. One of their effort around the Mahallah is to put a reminder to switch off the lights and plugs before the student leaves their room. Other than that, they placed the same sign around the toilet, so that students will remember to not waste water and electricity. Week 5 : Sejahtera as Local Concept of Sustainable Development

On week 5, we had no physical class at KENMS but we were assigned on an exciting task which we went to Dar al-Hikmah Library of IIUM with our group and took some exciting photos with several books and references related to the Sejahtera concept for sustainable development. We then wrote three engaging lessons about the Sejahtera concept for sustainable development from the readings of the books. We found two books related to the Sejahtera concept, from which we can conclude the lesson learned. The first book is 'Essay on Sejahtera Concept, Principle and Practice' by Dzulkifli Abdul Razak. Week 4 : International Framework of Sustainable Development

As for Week 4, we had a class at KENMS focusing on the key conventions, declarations agreement and framework of sustainable development, Sejahtera definition and concept and Sejahtera as the local implementation of sustainable development. 1. Our lecturer started by explaining the history of global conferences that provided a platform for the development of global strategies for sustainable development. It started in 1972 which the UN Conference on Human Development until 2016 which is the SDG. 2. Then, we proceed to the Rio de Janeiro Conference, which took place in 1992, 20 years after Stockholm. They produced the Rio Declaration and Agenda 21. They also led to agreement on two other conventions which then became open for signature.  3. Then, we proceed to the Kyoto Protocol which was in Japan, in December 1997. They came into effect on February 16, 2005. Their focus was on greenhouse gases. 4. Week 2 : Islam and Sustainable Development

Salam all, as the same from week 1 I did my studies for week 2 through the video provided by our lecturer, Prof. Dr Suhaimi through iTa'leem. As for week 2, the focus was on Islam and sustainable development which we focused on 3 main things, Islam and social sustainability, Islam and environmental sustainability and Islam and economic sustainability. Here's my reflection for week 2:- 1. First of all, the concept of sustainable development in Islam is defined as the responsible use of resources and the stewardship (Khilafah) of the Earth, which ensures the well-being of present and future generations. Week 1 : Introduction to Sustainable Development

 Salam all, though I joined the Sejahtera class on Week 3, I did watch the video provided by our lecturer, Prof. Dr. Suhaimi through iTa'Leem. Throughout the video of Week 1, our lecturer briefed and provided some explanations about sustainable development and the concept of sustainability. Here's what I reflected by the end of the session:- 1. Our lecturer defined sustainable development and the concept of sustainability. Sustainable means the ability to maintain while sustainable development addresses current demands while preserving future generations' ability to meet their own. It requires balancing economic growth, environmental conservation, and social well-being.  2. Week 3 : Maqasid Shariah

WEEK 3 : MAQASID SHARIAH This week, we were assigned to go to the IIUM Gallery at the Rectory of the MAF building to write three observations about Maqasid Shariah and Sustainable Development.   Maqasid means heading towards a direction. Shariah refers to water springs that provide clear and straight mazhab viewpoints, beverages, pathways, and what Allah has approved in the area of aqidah as well as rules and the religion. Promoting and defending the welfare of people and the environment is the Shariah's ultimate goal. There are five necessities of human existence in Maqasid Shariah which are faith, life, intellect, lineage and wealth. We need to take care of our faith as it guides our minds to always do good deeds and avoid bad desires. Islam emphasises inter-faith dialogue as a way to build understanding and find commonalities for the benefit of humanity.
